The Dirac Sea is an infinite sea described as "The Primordial Soup of all elementary particles" that is said to be uniformly distributed throughout the world. The "vacuum" is described as a state where elementary particles charged with negative energy (also known as Antimatter) are so tightly packed together, that no more can be created. Paul Dirac’s theory of the Dirac Sea is known as the Dirac Hole Theory.

Connection to Gigalomaniac powers[]

In ChäoS;HEAd, the Dirac Sea is important to how Gigalomaniacs are able to use their powers; the world is normally composed of a binary mechanism ("0" and "1") but Gigalomaniacs can see a third dimension called "-1" full of negative particles. DI-Swords are manifested out of the Dirac Sea when Gigalomaniacs smash holes in it and grab the DI-Swords (converting "-1" to "1"). Gigalomaniacs can use them to manifest other delusions out of the Dirac Sea too, by sending particles and antiparticles from holes they create in the Dirac Sea into the dead spots of other people’s brains.

Since according to quantum physics, the possibilities of wave functions only collapse into a single outcome when observed, changing what people observe by causing people to all have the same delusion actually changes the real outcome in reality. This is the principle underlying realbooting, the ability of Gigalomaniacs to turn their delusions into reality, which allows Gigalomaniacs to realboot both their DI-Swords and other delusional “errors”. “Errors” are delusional objects that only Gigalomaniacs can see, DI-Swords being just one example. However, when a delusional “error” is realbooted, it becomes part of reality, and not only can everyone see it, but it actually physically exists, too.

The way Gigalomaniacs are able to use the Dirac Sea to manifest DI-Swords and realboot their delusions is described by the Ir2 equation, which was discovered by the original Takumi Nishijou as a child. A researcher for N.O.Z.O.M.I., Issei Hatano, found a paper that Takumi had written that had the Ir2 equation on it, immediately realized its significance, and put it to use for his employer N.O.Z.O.M.I., for use in Project Noah and development of the Noah II device.

In real life[]

The Dirac Sea and antimatter were both predicted by the Dirac equation, a relativistic wave equation that made the earlier Schrödinger wave equation compatible with Albert Einstein’s special relativity, while also incorporating the matrix mechanics of Werner Heisenberg. Later, Dirac Hole Theory evolved into quantum field theory (QFT), which is the most popular current understanding of antimatter and many other physical phenomena, and is mathematically compatible with the Dirac Sea explanation of antimatter.
