The First Melt was the first of three manmade earthquakes to occur in Shibuya as a result of Project Noah’s experiments in trying to raise people’s biorhythms by raising the GE rates. It had the lowest magnitude of the three earthquakes, only a magnitude of 3, but very unusually for such a low magnitude earthquake, eight people still died. The death counts for the Second Melt and Third Melt would both be much higher.
Online, some people who were following the New Generation Madness had suspicions about the First Melt and the eight people who died in it, thinking that they were not killed by the earthquake, but had been killed in an occult ritual and then had their deaths falsely attributed to the earthquake. According to their theory, that would make the First Melt the first New Gen case, the Group Dive the second case, Manchild the third case, the Cruc-affixion incident the fourth case, and so on.
