Gero Froggy

A Goggling Gero Froggy

Gero Froggy (ゲロカエルん, Gero-Kaerun), known as “Hoppy the Frog” in the English dubbed anime, is a line of small uglycute phonestrap plushies made in China by FaithWorks Limited and sold in exclusive shops called "Top Frogs" all around Tokyo.

Release[]

Gero Froggy was released a few years after N.O.Z.O.M.I. had acquired FaithWorks Limited, in July. A new type of Gero Froggy is released every Friday and sells out over the weekend. This is also the time that GE rates rise. “G.E.R.O.” is actually secretly an acronym for “Gravitational Error Rate Observer”.

Nanami1

Gero Froggy is a very popular toy with teenage girls, including Nanami Nishijou and friends of Yua Kusunoki, in Shibuya during the events of ChäoS;HEAd in 2009. However, its popularity does not last very long and a year later, by the time of the events of Steins;Gate in 2010, Eisuke Urushibara was able to get a whole box of them for his son Luka Urushibara, who was thereafter unable to find anyone willing to take any.

The popularity of Gero Froggy among teenage girls in Shibuya and how they rush to buy the latest variant of it every week and wait in long lines for it, is an anomaly, because Gero Froggies are overpriced and low quality and seem to look like the exact opposite of the “culture of cute” or “kawaii” aesthetic popular in Japan, according to several characters in ChäoS;HEAd. The actual reason teenage girls all line up to buy new Gero Froggies every week is because of the fluctuations in GE rates and the faster biorhythms in teenage girls.

Implications & Speculation[]

The conception of Gero Froggies and its booming success are no accident, the product line is part of a much bigger experiment in mass mind control, part of the Committee of 300’s Project Noah, and connected with other experiments being done by N.O.Z.O.M.I. into mind control and Gigalomaniacs. It is actually normal for there to be fads among teenage girls and for them to line up to buy cute things that are popular and trendy; the anomaly here that involves mind control is the teenage girls being brainwashed into thinking of Gero Froggies as very appealing, as well as the degree to which all of them unthinkingly participate in this fad, and their willingness to wait in long lines for many hours for a new product.

The fact that this was all a result of mind control becomes even more evident if you look at how after the Project Noah experiments stopped, everybody suddenly lost interest in Gero Froggies, nobody wanted them anymore or understood why they had ever liked them, and people trying to give theirs away for free had a hard time finding anyone willing to accept them. Gero Froggies had seemingly decreased in value as shown when Eisuke Urushibara was able to get a whole box of them for his son Luka in Steins;Gate.
