— Nanami Nishijou, Chapter 1
|
Nanami Nishijou (西條 七海 Nishijō Nanami) is the younger sister of Takumi Nishijou and is a first-year at his school, Suimei Academy.
Appearance[]
Nanami is a cute, short and petite high school freshman girl with chest-length long blonde hair and purple eyes. She has been described as having a baby face.
She typically wears the bow version of the Suimei Academy uniform and she wears a black hairband, while it is red in the anime. While she is a year younger than most of the high-school-age characters, she still does not look quite as young as Kozue Orihara despite Kozue being a year older than her.
Her casual wear consists of a baby blue zip-up hoodie with light magenta ends over a white and light magenta shirt and a short blue jeans skirt over black 1/2 leggings.
Personality[]
Nanami is a very nice, open and outgoing girl who lives a normal high school life, such as being involved in the school’s extracurricular activities like tennis. She is shown to care a lot for Takumi as she often checks up on him and gives him advice, trying to get him out of his secluded lifestyle, but is easily upset when he does not reciprocate her affection, treating his younger sister very coldly like she is a nuisance.
She is shown to be quite childish, whining about Takumi’s treatment of her, messing with his stuff without his permission, like drinking his soda, taking a bangle she thinks looks nice or becoming angry whenever Takumi does not reciprocate her well intentioned deeds for him and instead insults her. Most of her and Takumi's interactions end with Nanami getting mad, yelling nasty things at Takumi, and running off. Despite their constant bickering, they do both care about each other, and Nanami helps Takumi out with things like getting a cell phone and finding out who prank called him.
She is fond of Gero Froggies, fish burgers, and a bangle she gets as a gift from Takumi after he says she can have it in Chapter 3.
While the original Takumi Nishijou was at the hospital, she often tended to him by giving him lunch and once even gifting him a self-made beanie, while she always felt like she was acting like the older sibling. Even at other times, she had seemingly always tried her best, all while struggling. Because of that, she wishes for Takumi to finally act like the older brother and be someone she can emotionally rely on in times of need.
DI-Sword[]
Nanami's DI-Sword is a sword comparable to her own size and resembles a cross, having been described as both sinister and pitiful. Its hilt is made of blades to prevent others from wielding it, making it even impossible for other Gigalomaniacs to use it. It is a sword born out of the memory of the bangle she received from her brother Takumi and out of the love for him. The tip describing the sword is "Aconitum", a flower also known as "Wolfsbane", "Monkshood", and "Queen of Poison" which in the language of flowers stands for death, deceit, treachery, misanthropy, or caution. She acquired it while being tortured by Gen'ichi Norose.
Plot[]
In ChäoS;HEAd[]
Nanami would often bother Takumi Nishijou by going to his house and tell him to eat, clean and so on. She insisted that they go out and buy a phone together for Takumi. Takumi received a “present” from "Shogun" in order to help him awaken fully to his Gigalomaniac powers. When Takumi called Nanami’s number because he was so panicked, it rang from inside a cardboard box and turned out to be Nanami’s severed hand along with her phone and the bangle he gave her.
While he was trying to get his DI-sword on the top the building, Rimi Sakihata went to his storage container (home) and removed Nanami’s hand. When Takumi returned he managed to convince himself that it was all a delusion and she was fine. Rimi took it so the original Takumi Nishijou, aka Shogun, could freeze and save it. Later, Takumi saw Nanami at school and was about to call out to her when he saw a bandage around her right wrist, although her hand was still attached. He became frightened and ran away. Later, the Nanami at school proved to be a delusion.
In actuality she had been kidnapped by Gen'ichi Norose in order to lure Takumi there and to awaken her to her power as a Gigalomaniac so they could take CODE samples from both of them. She had grown very attached to the bangle Takumi gave to her because it was the first thing he had ever given her, and when Rimi went to save her, Noah II showed her a delusion which caused her to think that had Rimi stolen her bangle. She asked her “Where’s Nana’s bangle...?” and begged her to give it back. She got so angry that she awakened as a Gigalomaniac, with a DI-Sword shaped like a cross. Nanami having served her purpose, Norose released her. Her hand had actually been cut off, and the hand everyone saw was a delusion by Noah II. The original Takumi Nishijou had made it so that she forgot about him and thought Takumi was her real brother. As soon as Takumi told her the truth, she remembered her brother’s illness and having cared for him when he was in hospital.
At the end of the true ending, Shogun has realbooted her hand and we can see her clasping his hand in his final moments in the hospital.

- ↑ Deduced: if Nanami is born on February 17 and is 16 during ChäoS;HEAd, which takes place in 2008, then he would be born in 1992. However, since the events of ChäoS;HEAd seem to take place in 2009 for the rest of the Science Adventure Series, it is possible that her birth year was retconned to be a year later.
