“Noah II” is a second-generation artificial Gigalomaniac device developed by N.O.Z.O.M.I., and an instrumental part of Project Noah.
Workings[]
The “Noah II” is described as a device which shows people artificial images closer to a hallucination than a hologram but surpasses both as the “images” possess a sense of presence.
The device converts artificial images to nerve impulses broadcast as electromagnetic waves. These waves are directly received by human dopamine receptors. By pushing these waves or images into a “dead/blind spot” in the human brain, the images are perceived by the human as “real”.
This device rivals the power of Gigalomaniacs. In other words, it is a mechanical gigalomaniac, capable of realbooting. It is stronger than the first-generation Noah device which was based on Visual Rebuilding, and could only cause delusions, without the ability to realboot them into reality.
Noah II's core system is based on the Ir2 equation. NA synapse code samples, which were taken from Gigalomaniacs, are used to build its processor. NA synapse code samples are explained as being taken from the part of the brain which gives commands. The more code samples gathered from various Gigalomaniacs, the more powerful N.O.Z.O.M.I. is able to make the Noah II. They thus aim to gather at least five different code samples to make Noah II as powerful as needed.
Porters[]
Porters are people hired by N.O.Z.O.M.I. to carry around backpacks with mobile transceiver terminals in them, which let N.O.Z.O.M.I. conduct localized or targeted application of Noah II’s power. The Cosmic Church of the Divine Light and The Meiwa Party also supply their members for use as porters, including both Mamoru Suwa and Shino Hazuki.
Using the terminals, porters are able to utilize some of the same powers as Gigalomaniacs without the need of a DI-Sword. The transceiver terminal in their backpacks can, however, easily be broken by a DI-Sword. Sena Aoi is the most active character fighting against the porters, often confronting porters and destroying their transceiver terminals.
In Robotics;Notes[]
This section contains major spoilers for Robotics;Notes.
The Ir2 equation becomes lost after the Third Melt, so by the time Robotics;Notes takes place and the “Noah IV” is built by N.O.Z.O.M.I. (which is under new leadership loyal to the Committee of 300), the Noah IV is actually a vastly inferior imitation of the Noah II, incapable of realbooting delusions into physical reality, and only capable of causing mass delusions.
Noah IV is based on Visual Rebuilding technology, which is older than the Ir2 equation-based technology and cannot actually realboot anything. However, people in Robotics;Notes are deceived into thinking that realbooting took place by the delusions from Noah IV.
Also, the Noah IV device, also called “Noah’s Ark”, is small, portable, and able to be mass-produced, just like the transponder backpacks used by Porters in ChäoS;HEAd, so it can be used a bit more flexibly than Noah II, which was big and bulky and there was only one of. But Noah IV’s failure to actually realboot anything demonstrates the importance of the Ir2 equation.
Takumi Nishijou is able to quickly come up with countermeasures to render the Noah IV devices completely useless, helping out the main cast of Robotics;Notes.[]
